The heartbeat of the World's Heart reached COP30

The Tayrona Indigenous Confederation (CIT) participated in COP30, held in Belém, as part of the international impact areas around climate action and the defence of indigenous territories. This participation marked a significant moment in bringing the voice of the four Indigenous Peoples living in the Sierra Nevada of Gonawindúa to one of the global climate change scenarios.

In this space, the CIT positioned the World Heart as a proposal for climate action based on the Law of Origin and the ancestral order of the territory, stressing that the protection of life cannot be disconnected from spirituality, balance and relationship with Mother Earth. It also promoted the recognition of indigenous territories as key spaces for climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as the need to ensure direct financing mechanisms to strengthen self-governance.

The participation also made it possible to build partnerships with other indigenous peoples, international organizations and actors, visibilizing the role of women, traditional authorities and ancestral knowledge systems in building solutions to the climate crisis. In this way, the Tayrona Indigenous Confederation reaffirmed its commitment to defending the territory, life and balance of the planet, carrying a clear message: to protect the Heart of the World is to protect all humanity.

For the first time, the Arhuaco people participated in the Conference of the Parties (COP30) through the Tayrona Indigenous Confederation (CIT), in a collective effort led by the Mamos and the Traditional Authorities of the Sierra Nevada of Gonawindúa.

This is a historic fact: an opportunity for indigenous peoples to make their voice, positions and spiritual relationship with Mother Earth visible in one of the most important scenarios of global decision.

In this way, the CIT seeks to strengthen the defense of the Heart of the World the Sierra Nevada of Gonawindúa, a sacred territory for the balance of life.

At COP30, we carry messages that connect the heart beat of the world to the lung of the earth, promoting routes of action from women, territories, under the principles of unity and the Law of Origin.
