We are the Tayrona Indigenous Confederationa basic organization created in 1976 by the traditional authorities of the Arhuaco, Kogi and Wiwa peoples, and formalized in 1978 to represent the living voice of the ancestral movement of the peoples of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta.

Our vision

The Tayrona Indigenous Confederation is a bridge between the ancestral and modern governments. We believe that the connection of these two visions is the key to the permanence of life and the path to a civilization that cooperates with the Earth.

In our organization we believe in making peace, cultivating harmony and weaving respectful relations between institutions, communities and the territory. Only in this way will the people of the world be able to remain.

Making peace means not the absence of conflict, but the presence of purpose. Harmony does not mean uniformity, but collaboration between differences. Therefore, the word is everything: in our cosmovence, speaking is a ceremonial, political and spiritual act.

Our mission is to protect the territory, strengthen indigenous governance and ensure that the voice of peoples is heard with dignity and respect.

Autonomy and legitimate representation before the State

We act as the legitimate voice of our peoples, promoting dialogue and cooperation for the defence of our rights and the recognition of the Law of Origin.

  • Political impact: We participate in national and international spaces for our proposals to be considered in public policies.
  • Legal defence: We provide legal support to protect the territorial rights and autonomy of our peoples.
  • Dialogue with the State: We generate meeting and joint work spaces with government entities to coordinate actions that benefit our communities and the country.

Conservation of biodiversity

We are guardians of the Sierra Nevada balance, working to ensure that life continues in harmony, in accordance with the principles of the Law of Origin.

  • Ecological restoration: We recover and heal spaces from the territory that have been affected.
  • Water management: We implement and strengthen ancestral systems for the care of rivers, lagoons and water births.
  • Territorial surveillance: We conduct control tours to protect sacred sites and face threats such as deforestation and illegal mining.

Dialogue between ancestral wisdom and science

We promote the exchange between ancient knowledge and modern science to bring solutions to global challenges, recognizing that territory is a source of wisdom for life.

  • Research projects: We work with scientists and universities to study and strengthen our models of agriculture, healing and conservation.
  • Knowledge exchange: We share our vision to enrich scientific thinking and contribute to a more balanced relationship with nature.

Conservation of cultural diversity

We work to keep our identity alive through knowledge, practices and relationships that connect us with our ancestors.

  • Self-education: We develop educational processes to strengthen the cultural identity of children and young people.
  • Transmission of knowledge: We facilitate the exchange of knowledge between Mamos, older and new generations.
  • Arts and crafts: We promote crafts and fabrics as an expression of identity, memory and ancestral knowledge.
