Tayrona-CIT Indigenous Confederation

In 1976, Luis Napoleon Torres was elected, the year when, by the direction of the Mamus, the Tayrona Indigenous Confederation (CIT) was created, conceived as the political organization representing the Arhuaco people. According to this spiritual orientation, it was determined that the CIT would be chaired by the Governor of the Arhuaco People's Cabildo and would have as its fundamental mission the defence of the Ancestral Territory and the preservation of the Iku culture.

It is important to note that the CIT was established as a political organization of collective representation of the Territory and the Arhuaco People, at a time when there were no safeguards in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This means that the figures of the Territory, the Governor's Cabildo and the Tayrona Indigenous Confederation, in time, are leading to the creation of the guards, thus consolidating the foundations of the political and cultural organization of the Arhuaco people.

«The being Iku (Arhuaco) is based on the fulfillment of the Law of Origin, the being Iku is based on those norms that are in each of the elements of our Territory, the being Iku is to comply with those norms that are not written, which are not norms that were made yesterday, but millennial norms that have been made since the creation of the World for us. «
